  • Why the F would you build this…..when there’s a free one made by mailchimp themselves???? This is whats wrong with the WP community…. Build 1,000 versions of the same thing and reinvent the wheel…………

    Hi @destinationsound,

    Thanks for the review!

When we first built this plugin, MailChimp and WooCommerce didn’t have a free plugin, so we created one. Our plugin solves a simple use case – subscribe any customers that make a purchase to a single MailChimp list. Our planned Pro version will allow more granular control by allowing customers to setup per-product lists among other things.

MailChimp’s rather new plugin (created in the last year) is all geared toward using their eCommerce integration and list segmentation. This is great for people who are just getting started, but not ideal for customers with existing stores, lists, subscribers where that data is not already present in MailChimp or may have invested in a different list/segmentation strategy before their new eCommerce approach came out.

So, that’s the long answer as to “why the F would you build this” 🙂 – because there was a need and we met it…nearly 4 years before MailChimp or WooCommerce did. We had an itch and we scratched our own itch since there wasn’t a solution back in October of 2013 when we created the plugin. Turns out nearly 30,000 people had the same itch and have asked us for additional features and that’s why we continue to support the plugin and iterate on its development.

MailChimp and WooCommerce actually approached us about collaborating on and promoting our plugin and then back-pedaled and decided to create their own. So, they actually reinvented the wheel by creating yet another plugin instead of supporting, contributing to and promoting ours.
