I noticed that when updating to version 3.8 the plugin’s entry in the admin menu was renamed. It’s even in the change log:

    * Updated: admin menu renamed to ”content aware”

Why? I think the old name was way more intuitive. I’m worried that when handing a site over to a client, they will be confused by this new naming. “Sidebars” isn’t even in there, even though it’s the most significant word of the plugin’s name! For me, having installed the plugin on several sites, it’s no problem, but for site owners it may pose a problematic hurdle navigating the WordPress Panel.

Unless there are very good reasons for the rename, I would like to request the old menu label back, please.

Thank you for your feedback about this!

The are 2 reasons behind this change:

    1. Content Aware Sidebars works for any widget area and have done so for a ling time, so I am trying to move away from writing “sidebars” specifically to get rid of any misconception that might cause. I have many ideas for how the plugin can evolve even more 🙂

    2. After the release of the new WordPress editor (Gutenberg), it is on the official roadmap to convert all widgets into blocks (See Phase 2), so “widget areas” will soon be renamed to “block areas” or similar.

With that said, I agree that “Content Aware” might be confusing for users that don’t know the name of the plugin.

I am always open to suggestions, so if you have titles that would fit better, let me know!

Of course, you provide valid arguments.

While I still think “Sidebars” is a much better menu label than just “Content Aware”, I understand your reasoning. Right now I can’t come up with a very good alternative, but I’ll let you know if I do… 😉

Of course, I can install a plugin that lets me rename menu options, but I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to.
