Back when Thomas Griffin and Syed Balkhi launched the Optinmonster plugin, they decided to sell Lifetime licenses for Optinmonster.

This was a great way for them to get funding for their development and a great way for early adopters to make a good deal.

In their own wording – this is how they sold it:
“we’re offering the ULTIMATE lifetime plan for our early supporters. Get grandfathered in, so you don’t have to pay for yearly support, updates, and tons of amazing new features”

However, now they are turning around and stabbing these early supporters in the back.
Despite having sold a “Lifetime license” and promised that “you don’t have to pay for yearly support, updates, and tons of amazing new features” they are now canceling all lifetime licenses and asking us early supporters to pay full price.

Their argument is, that they have to pay for hosting, CDN, and Analytics Enterprise, however, they are not asking if we would be okay to cover the (fairly low cost) of servers that a campaign adds to their totaal bill. They are straight out telling us to pay full price or get lost.

I cannot understand why Thomas Griffin and Syed Balkhi have such horribly bad business ethics?
Why don’t you stand by your early supporters?

    Hi @loenne,

Thanks for reaching out. How are you today?

Yes, we did offer lifetime licenses when OptinMonster was launched as a plugin and we did honor that plan for as long as the product was offered as a standalone plugin and even after that by offering grandfathered legacy plan for a very long time.

To clarify a bit more, we actually stopped selling the Legacy plans in early 2018. Still, we’ve allowed our Legacy customers to continue using OptinMonster for several years without increasing to match our current prices. At this time, though, these plans are being discontinued entirely.

Having said that, we did offer the support, updates, and all the new features that were added for the lifetime of the Standalone WordPress plugin and honored the same by offering extended access for a very long time even after the plugin was retired.

While I can’t discuss account and billing-specific issues through the public support forum in detail, I’d be happy to follow up again via email. Please write to us on support [at] optinmonster [dot] com

    Have a great day ahead.
