Great editor, it just gives all I need when posting. If it lacks something, give developers a time, people!

  • So good?
You cannot mark bold or italics a single word in a phrase, you have to mark bold or italic the whole sentence. Or color for that matter.

Are you joking? I do all everything you mentioned without any problems. Except coloring. I don’t need it, but can do it in html mode anytime if I want. I think they will add it sooner or later.

You mark things bold or italic in the exact same way: You select that thing, then hit the bold or italic button. Words work just as well as phrases.

    Ok, now it does it!
I just upgraded to Gutenberg 4.4, the last time I tried was 4.1, it did not do it in that version.

Text color and background is still pending.
@maleficmax: good for you that you don’t need color, I do highlight words and sentences with color.

    I keep my negative review.

Text color and background color are available on a per-block basis by using the Color Settings options in the right hand sidebar.

And yes, bold and italic were in 4.1. They have been in every version of the editor.

About block color & background: I know. I am talking of words & sentences.

About bold & italic, I tried before and it did not worked. I don’t know what version it was. Does not mind, it is over now.

I am very happy that you people are always moving forward, creating new things, my only point is that they are not ready to be core. The classic editor, no doubt, is poor, missing many things. But this does not make good the new one. Gutenberg still needs a year… My humble opinion is that it should be kept as a plugin for now.

    Thanks

If you really have a need for text coloring, then the Classic Block still exists, and it has the text coloring functionality in it for those cases where you need it. This may or may not come to the Paragraph block in the future. I don’t see much of a use case for it, but a plugin might add it.

Background color, not so much. It would look a bit odd to change background color over selected areas of text in the middle of a paragraph, so that’s unlikely to be a feature at any point.

Look at this example of changing background color over selected areas, look at second half of page.

I don’t know what editor they used… But this is something you cannot do in Gutemberg. Color is used for highlighting…

    Hiya,

There’s actually a companion plugin for Gutenberg/the new editing experience, for those that need granular text control of the paragraph block it self as well, the Advanced Rich Text Tools for Gutenberg.

With that said, this is another users review, so please, if you need further help with Gutenberg create a support topic.

    Thanks!
    The plugin is quite interesting…
