Why is the URL component called a SLUG? (2 posts)

    Hey gang,
    Anyone knows why is it called a slug? I don't see any association with slug (aka snail) here.

    Not that it would be incredibly important. Client asked me. I explained the functionality a told 'em it is our dirty programming slang.

  2. Huh. I have no idea, actually. I've always thought of it as like a "slug" in terms of a bullet.

    Internally, it's called post-name. But that is confusing with the post title.

    It's been slug for at least 4 years, when Matt added it to the code:
