• This plugin works fine. Previously the password field was visible to anyone looking over your shoulder though. So I ended up using a different plugin that as least appeared more secure and was easier to configure. UPDATE: The author has apparently addressed the password issue, so I added a star, but I haven’t tested it. I’m committed to another SMTP relay now.

  • You’re right, other plugins might “feel” more secure but they’re not. The password needs to be stored unencrypted so that WordPress can use it to authenticate with the SMTP server. It could be shown as “*******” but this would only be making you “feel” better and perhaps stopping someone from looking over your shoulder and seeing the password.

Masking the password will be implemented in the next release of the plugin.
You will also be able to store the password a bit more secure (without DB).

    Thank you for your feedback.

Will you consider changing your initial stars review? We have implemented the changes you’ve requested.

@slaffik I already gave you a good review! I was telling this person why they were mistaken about “security” 🙂
