Why is my blog so slow!

    Can anyone help me out here. I have tried everything I can find. I have looked all over the web. My hosting provider doesnt support gzip or any other compression that I can tell. But my blog is so slow. I am using firebug to get the load times and here is what it tells me.

    the first line is:
    GET http://www.thetechtalkblog.com/ 200 OK thetechtalkblog.com 32 KB 5.38s

    It took 5 seconds just waiting on a response!(according to firebug). That is my biggest problem. Can anyone help?
