# Unchecking uncategorized does not keep

 * no matter how many times i keep “uncategorized” unchecked, my post still shows
   up as “uncategorized”?

 * yup. clicked “update”,
 * i’m learning WP via a local install with xampp.
 * it’s just that i’ve **made sure** “uncategorized” is unticked, yet it won’t go
   away.

 * If it appears somewhere on your website, like sidebar or footer, it’s because
   you need to have a category in WordPress. Even if you untick it, it will still
   appear, because it’s probably the only one you have. It’s the default category.
 * You have, like, 2 options:
    - Rename it in Posts -> Categories -> press the Edit button under it and enter
      something else;
    - Remove the Categories widget from Appearance -> Widgets. Click on it and drag
      it to the left side.
