Why is 8) converted to a smiley face icon ?

    I have just checked the online version of a post and where I have written

    8)

    it is being displayed as a smile-y face with sunglasses. An emoticon.

    The original post does not show any such option. It only seems to happen in the post.

    This looks particularly silly as it is in a list of 6), 7), 8) etc

    How do i stop this happening?

    WordPress is very happy software so this happens by default.
    You can switch to miserable mode by going Dashboard>Settings>Writing. I think it is the first or second option on the page. 🙂

    (after I remembered to save the settings)

    Now I am a happy smiley face also 😉
