I thought that I was finally ready to “upgrade” to the Block Editor when I discovered that this editor doesn’t have a way to insert special characters

I was relieved to find your Insert Special Characters plugin only to be greeted with this: “This plugin hasn’t been tested with the latest 3 major releases of WordPress. It may no longer be maintained or supported and may have compatibility issues when used with more recent versions of WordPress.”

So, why haven’t you upgraded/maintained the Insert Special Characters plugin?

    Thanks.

@nealumphred yes this plugin is actively supported and updates are planned as and when they’re necessary. We’re responsive in the forums, we’re also actively managing development in the related GitHub repo. We have an open issue to test against WordPress 5.6, so if you’re open to helping with that we can bump the “tested up to” value. Does that cover your questions?

    Thanks for the response!

I added Insert Special Characters to one of my sites and it seems to be working just fine.

How can I help you with your “open issue to test against WordPress 5.6”?

    Best,

PS: I have a few suggestions:

    • In your installations instructions on the WordPress Repository page, you might consider noting that access to the Special Characters is found in the More Rich Text Controls in the Toolbar.

    • You might also consider adding a downward-pointing chevron (the opposite of the caret ^ on the 6 key) to your plugin’s characters.

    • Please please me and add the 1/3 (⅓) character to your plugin. Two of my blogs are about records and I refer to LP albums as 33⅓ rpm records. To do this, I have to import a ⅓ character from a Word document.

@nealumphred if you see issues with the plugin when using WordPress 5.6, then adding those as comments to the related GitHub issue would be great! Similarly if things work as expected, leave a comment to that affect as well. Thanks!
