I have no idea and try to figure it out!
An E-Mail address of one of the contributors bounced, so WordPress deactivated the plugin. I am in contact with both, to reactivate it.
Thanks Matthias for keeping us posted. I hope the situation gets solved rapidly. As soon as I notice a plugin has been removed from the WP repository –Wordfence tells me so immediately– I disable it from all of my websites, just in case.
I wish WP admins gave explanations so the users can take action based on an informed decision –I guess they don’t do it as a legal defensive policy–.
Ah ok, it is definitely not because of a security issue!
The reason why a plugin was shut down normaly shows 6 month after a shut down: https://developer.wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-org/alerts-and-warnings/
I think this is because of security issues.

I am afraid I don’t think that is the way it usually works. Last year I saw how WP-SpamShield, a plugin with more than 100,000 active installations, was removed from the WP repository. To this day (one year after) the reasons why it was removed are unknown https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-spamshield/
