Why can't the RSS feed cut off at the 'more' tag?

  • I’ve searched high and wide for an answer to this and tried many solutions online but NOTHING works with the latest WordPress.

My site’s RSS feed will only display the first 55 words followed by […] or the whole article depending on the settings chosen in the Admin Panel.

I use the ‘more’ tag in posts and don’t do excerpts. I simply want the RSS feed to display up to the ‘more’ tag break.

Could anyone please help me out with this? Have tried various snippets in functions.php from the forums but the solutions were years old and seem not to work any longer.

    It’s very frustrating.

  • RSS feeds do not honour the <!--more--> tag as that tag is reserved for web-viewable content and feeds are not meant to be viewed in your web browser but with a feed reader. It is the reader that determines how much of a post is shown and there is nothing WordPress can do to change this. you can either choose to show all of your post content in your feed or, as you are now, show only an excerpt.
