Why am I getting a 404 error on my WP homepage (6 posts)

I'm currently creating a blog for a client and I changed the name of index.php to blog.php but ever since then I get this error when I go to:

    Error 404 - Not Found

Why is that? The posts show up just fine but not the index. Any help? Or does it just not like me changing the filename to anything besides index.php?

I can't. We already have an index.php page that's static. It's got to be something else.

Maybe they could put the blog in a subfolder (i.e. /blog/ instead of /blog.php).
See See Making Your Blog Appear in a Non-Root Folder

Or, you could recreate the static index.php as a WordPress page and set that page as the front page. You can set the home page to a WordPress page in the Administration > Settings > Reading panel.

There's even a way to configure WordPress to use different Page Templates for different Pages. Individual Pages can be set to use a specific custom Page Template.
    See WordPress Pages Documentation

You could just give up and recommend to your client one of these guys above who really know WP :)
Or just hire them to help you out - and don't ask for free help when you are doing a paid job!
