I am using WordPress with the White House Pro Themes by Pagelines. Right now, the site seems to be working perfectly. However, my problem mainly is that the site has two meta tags description. One is generated by Yoast SEO plugin and the other I believe is generated by the theme. The description meta by the theme comes first, so Google and other search engines would practically recognize that and reject the one by Yoast. I want to only use the one generated by Yoast.
I’ve looked into the header.php file but the theme doesn’t seem to have the description meta explicitly written and instead have the wp_head() by itself. So I’m assuming that the meta tags generated by the theme is located at some other function. But I can’t seem to locate it.
Anyone familiar with White House Pro? I don’t have an account with Pagelines so I can’t ask their support staff. I hope I get some help from here. The site is at http://handurawonline.org/ if that helps figure out the problem.
While I haven’t used it before, have you tried looking in function.php and see if they have anything there ?
Also, check to see if there is any options in WordPress admin panel for this theme that may be able to disable it.
There’s nothing explicitly written in function.php except for some core initialization as well as my overrides to some predefined functions. I’ve checked into the core files referred in function.php but there seems to be no clue in there.
As for the theme option, there is none. So right now I’m really having a hard time figuring out something that should have been simple in the first place.
Thanks for your suggestions! I’m really hoping to get a solution on this real soon.
Can you try disabling Yoast SEO plugin and see if they both disappear (unlikely). Also, is it possible to have a look at the themes files as once again, little I can do without being able to see it.
Also, do you have any other plugins enabled and is it possible to disable them all and try. And this is a given but can you try switching to the default theme and see if both are there ?
While the Yoast SEO is disabled, the prior description meta tag still shows up. I have the following plugins active, do you think it’s likely that any one of them might cause it?
-Better Delete Revision
-Conditional CAPTCHA for WP
-Exclude Pages from Navigation
– JW Player Plugin for WP
-Page Links To
-Simple Facebook Connect
-W3 Total Cache
Thanks for the suggestions, btw!
The weird thing is that even if I tested it with the default theme twentyten, the description meta is still being generated. It seems that wp_head function is giving it, I just have no clue where it comes from. Disabling WordPress SEO only disables Yoast SEO but not the description meta tag.
