• I have read a number of responses all over the web about white text and missing buttons in the visual editor. I do not have any missing buttons – I have text in the visual editor showing up as the color I changed it to in the visual editor (which is fine) – but in the case of white text, I have white on white and I cannot see it in the visual editor to edit it (which is not fine).

Is this new due to the new update to WordPress that is supposed to be closing gap between the front end and the backend with regard to what you see in the visual editor?

Is this just the way it is?

If not, how is it supposed to be? How am I supposed to see white text in the visual editor?

    Thanks,

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thanks esmi – but really I am first not sure there is a problem with the site functionally.

How is it supposed to look in the visual editor if you change a color to white in the visual editor? Is it supposed to be white on white? (If I change a color in the visual editor to blue it shows as blue and this is helpful, so I figure the WP visual editor is just like this).

This is most commonly caused by a bad plugin or theme or a faulty upgrade, Please try the steps I suggested above.

    Thanks again esmi.

Can you or someone please tell me how it is supposed to work?

Isn’t the visual editor supposed to display text in the color it was changed to within the visual editor?

    Yes.

So then what I am experiencing is not a technical problem with WordPress or plugins or themes. That just is the way WordPress developed it to be, which is not a problem unless using white text as such.

Has anyone every come up with a creative solution for working with white text as such?

If you are manually changing the text to white then, yes, it sounds like WordPress is doing what it should do. As an aside, I originally mis-parsed your initial post to indicate that you had a problem with all text appearing white (a not uncommon problem with bad plugins or themes).

Can I ask why you would want white text on your site? What colour is the background on the front end of the site? And what theme are you using?

The background is dark green for one section of the website. I used shortcode to assign the background color to the section.

Thanks esmi for your quick responses.

What theme are you using? Where did you download it from? A well-written theme should have a style sheet for the editor that is the same background colour as the default background colour for the theme.
