• Hello!

I have had my first encounter with the WSoD! I’ve heard from the extensive research I’ve done, prior to this post, that this happens to everybody sooner or later.

However, I have exhausted all online resources on this topic other than the forums here and I need HELP!

This is what happened leading up to the crash:

I don’t live anywhere where I get wifi daily, so the other day I was finally at the local library and was able to download everything I needed to.

I updated the to the new WordPress 4.9.2
I updated the to the new Divi Theme (the one I currently use)
I updated the to the new Divi Builder Plugin

    ALSO,

I am completely new at all of this. Not only wordpress, but my blog is brand new as well! Which means I’m not completely devestated as the only thing I had up and working at the time of the WSoD was custom css for my header and an article I wrote.

Since I’m new though, I was learning what PLUGINs I should be using.
    I downloaded:
Akismet, Yoast SEO, WP Optimizer, WP Smush, Monarch (from elegant themes), and another one I can’t remember.

All of this was in one afternoon. My website worked the night before, and after all the updating, and the plugin downloading, my website didn’t work. I’ve been trying to get it back up and running ever since.

This is what I know and have tried already prior to this post:

-I have deactivated and the deleted all plugins (except I re-downloaded the divi builder again)
    -Cleared my cash multiple times
-I have deactivated my divi theme and activated another theme (the other theme works, but with the divi theme it’s blank)
-I downloaded Cyberduck to go in and edit the back end.
-I have gone in and increased my memory from 40M to 64M
-I have tried renaming the plugins folder (nothing happened)
-I have tried renaming the different themes (nothing happened)
-I have tried inserting /** error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set(‘display_errors’, 1); define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true);**/ into wp.config.php (and now that’s what it says on my blank screen)
    – I finally went into my themes to download the default Twenty*** Theme from wordpress, because an article told me to, and this notice came up! “An unexpected error occurred. Something may be wrong with WordPress.org or this server’s configuration. If you continue to have problems, please try the support forums.”

So here I am. At the Support Forums.

Any help is appreciated, and as you can probably see I am willing to try anything and to learn the system!

Thanks in advance for the help!

    Sarah

  • -I have deactivated my divi theme and activated another theme (the other theme works, but with the divi theme it’s blank)

Here is a starting point. Run with the theme that works.

-I have tried inserting /** error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set(‘display_errors’, 1); define( ‘WP_DEBUG’, true);**/ into wp.config.php (and now that’s what it says on my blank screen)

This is looking like you have inserted a comment line, this would (or should) change nothing. This is curious.

Now load and activate the plugin: “https://wordpress.org/plugins/health-check/”
Delete and reload your Divi theme.
