Support » Theme: Virtue » White screen "failed to open stream"

  • For the past few weeks my Virtue-themed website http://www.thirdculturecaravan.com has been down, showing only a white screen with an error message. I haven’t been able to log in to my admin page either. As of today, I am now able to access my homepage and everything looks great (even though I took no actions to fix the problem, so I’m not sure how that happened!), but when I click on other pages (“About Us,” “Blog,” etc.) I get another white screen that says the following:

Warning: require_once(/home3/acowles/public_html): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home3/acowles/public_html/wp-content/themes/virtue/functions.php on line 10

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ” (include_path=’.:/opt/php54/lib/php’) in /home3/acowles/public_html/wp-content/themes/virtue/functions.php on line 10

Any ideas on how to go about fixing this? I’m pretty new to WordPress, and I still can’t access my admin page (I just get another white screen and error message). Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you!

    Hey,
Are you using the latest versions of the theme and wordpress? If so start by deactivating your plugins to see if these errors go away. Let me know if there’s no change.
If it gets to the point where you can’t access your admin again your host should be able to help you.

    Hey,
If this was from a couple weeks ago then it would be related to this: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/update-issue-10?replies=26

WordPress.org server had a version of the theme file that wasn’t complete. The main server tech posted there to explain. It isn’t something that was in our power to control.

To fix the issue here are the steps:
Usually you can login to your cpanel on your hosts site and find the “web file manager”

From there you can navigate to the wp-content/themes folder and remove the “virtue” folder that would get your site back up and running. Next login to your wordpress site and navigate to themes. There you can click add new and reinstall virtue. You can select it right from the page you don’t need to manually upload or anything.

Since the theme options and customizations are saved in your database those will all still be there.

    Hope that helps,

    Kadence Themes
