• I have a personal blog flyillusions.com where I post sporadically, but have had for three years without problems. After a couple month hiatus I visited the site only to find the front page loads fine, but clicking on any post or link yields:
    Not Found
The requested URL /category/bench-tools/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I could not log in as admin, I got the WSoD. flyillusions.com/login.php got the login screen, but typing in the info again got the WSoD.

After googling this, I renamed the themes through ftp except for 2010. Even the front page didn’t work then.
I don’t know php, but looking at the files, I didn’t see any obvious spaces, but I’m not sure I would know them if they were present.
I had a link to a comment in my email. Clicking that took me to the admin page. Then I was able to retest the themes – no change.
I updated to wp 3.5 from 3.4.2, thinking maybe my installation was corrupted. No change.
I don’t know anything about databases or how to check them.
Any suggestions of what to do from here would be very much appreciated.

  • When you login to your server via FTP, do you see the wp-admin folder?
I would delete it and reupload a fresh version of it. I would do the same the wp-includes and all the root files.
I would also delete the .htaccess files and rename the plugins folder.

Hopefully that will get you back in the admin.
Once back in, I would go to permalinks and reset them and then install the plugins again one by one. I think that one of them is probably the cause of this.

    Christine,
Thanks so much for the suggestions. I had already done the wp-admin and plugin folder.
I deleted the .htaccess file and now the site works! So the .htaccess must have been the issue.
I didn’t do the permalinks since it’s working, but looked at the admin and couldn’t see how to reset them. In case it comes up again, how do you reset the permalinks?
You gave me a great Christmas present. Thanks for your help.
