• I have been having issues several times after running a scan and trying to delete the suspicious files.

At first I thought it was an issue with memory allocation as suggested in other threads, but the issue is still happening even after upping the memory limit to 512M.

Each time this happens, the scan runs properly and finds a few files for me to address. When I hit ‘Delete this file’ the screen turns blank white and no matter where I go it stays that way.

The solution the last three times has been that my hosting company replaced some core wordpress files (wp-includes folder was mentioned specifically last time) Boom! fixes the problem every time.

I’m scared to death to hit delete each time I run a scan knowing that I might make my client’s site go down and then I have to fix the corrupted files.

All my plugins and WP core are up to date. Any suggestions on how to prevent this?

  • Instead of deleting files in wp-admin or wp-includes, try selecting the option to replace with the original copy first. If a hacker has got in and modified a core file, deleting it will definitely cause problems because wordpress needs it.

If you are thinking you have been hacked and are having files constantly replaced, make sure you have these options checked:

    • Scan for signatures of known malicious files
    • Scan file contents for backdoors, trojans and suspicious code
    • Scan options table
    • Scan files outside your WordPress installation
    • Scan image files as if they were executable
    • Disable Code Execution for Uploads directory

and scan again to see what comes up.
