 * I’m repairing a site that went wrong over the weekend. Some update or something
   messed up the site and I’m trying to restore an UpDraft plus database backup
   which we believe was before the mess-up.
 * I’m getting the following error message after a few minutes of attempting to
   restore:
 * > Request Timeout
   > This request takes too long to process, it is timed out by
   > the server. If it should not be timed out, please contact administrator of
   > this web site to increase ‘Connection Timeout’.
 * I’ve tried the following things to see if I can get the timeout to stop (per
   the codex)
 * – stop the chron process
 *  `define('DISABLE_WP_CRON', true );`
 * – increase memory limit in WordPress in the wp-config file
 *  `define( 'WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M' );`
 * – increase the execution time in .htaccess
 *  `php_value max_execution_time 60`
 * None of these have had an effect on the database restore attempts. I’ve got note
   into the hosting company but they haven’t responded today.
 * Any other ideas of what I could do? If we can get this database to restore, we
   should be able to get the site repaired and back up again.

 * Hi,
 * If you have access to your php.ini file on your server. You can increase the
   max_execution_time value.
    [http://php.net/manual/en/info.configuration.php#ini.max-execution-time](http://php.net/manual/en/info.configuration.php#ini.max-execution-time)
 * If you had tried increasing the value to a large integer and it still does not
   work, I suggest you to contact your plugin’s support for help. [https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/updraftplus](https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/updraftplus)
 * The plugin author should be able to advise on this issue, or perhaps it could
   be an issue in the plugin’s code and not the php value.
 * Thank you

 * Thank you, Denzel, for responding. I just found the php ini settings in the CPanel.
   It was set at 120. They say the default is 90. I’m going to temporarily bump
   it way up just to be “open” and try it.

 * I tried 600 but the timeout occurred much earlier than 600 elapsed seconds. I
   see via the link you shared that Apache has a timeout directive. I’ll look into
   that.

 * The hosting company responded with a backup file from one week ago. We went with
   that and we’re restored. Onward….
