  • I have a hypothetical question.

If I were a non-savvy person when it came to PHP, HTML, WordPress, FTP – all that stuff…and I just wanted to create my own blog with podcasting features using WordPress and PodPress – which version of WordPress would you recommend I use? 2.1.2 or 2.0.9?

    Just curious 🙂

  • You can always get more support with the latest version. I suggest 2.1.2.

Well, the thing is, 2.0.9 is also supported. They haven’t stopped developing the 2.0 line (from my understanding) – mainly because not everyone has the server requirements to support the next gen WP version.

So 2.0.9 *is* the latest version – in the 2.0 series. *Both* versions are supported equally.

I know there are some differences between 2.0.x and 2.1.x – I’m just wondering which version caters more to the “tech-dummies”. I, myself have seen interesting things with both versions. I’m more comfortable using 2.0.9, because that’s what I’ve used for some time now. But I’ve upgraded to 2.1.2, and I’ve seen some surprising things – like I don’t like that categories and pages in my sidebar have been meshed together (but it’s fixable) – but to my amazement the WYSIWYG editor actually performs better.

    So, my question still stands…

Well, IMHO, I would just go the 2.0.9 route then. ;):) Just because 2.1.2 is the latest and greatest release, with some more added functionality, doesn’t mean you’d have to use it.

2.0.9 would be just fine for something like you want, and you’d have lesser hassles with the plugins and so forth. But, that’s just me, so… =P

    /This coming from a guy running 2.2-bleeding…lol!!

How can find out the version of WordPress of an installed BLOG ? There must be an on-the-fly version identifier somewhere right ?

Yep, just access the dashboard or any page in wp-admin, scroll to the bottom.
