• Hi, I found a support thread on this topic that answers my question, but my WordPress output is not complying with the answer, so I am missing something.

Here is a sample of one of my pages getting the default template. At least I think it is the default. I have not done anything deliberate to set the default template.

Viewing the source of that page shows a comment, <!-- default? single.php --> entered only into single.php, so that means single.php is appears to be the template for that page… I guess that is not a default, but I do not understand how that page got its template.

My plan is to make the template used on this page the default.

I know that page.php is the default, but this behavior of single.php is confusing me. Looking in the Codex now for more info.

Any suggestions would be extremely much appreciated. Thank you.

Looks like there are quite a few default templates, according to the WordPress Template Hierarchy. I cannot believe I did not refer to that previously.
