• I always forget my user name & pw sorry for the anonymous.
Anyway, I have customised WP and about to go live, but I want to get the best combination of anti-spam add-ons and mods.
I saw a couple lists of different mods and I’m unsure which to install.
Can someone recommend which anti-spam combo works best? I would surely appreciate it.

  • http://mookitty.co.uk/devblog/ – SPAMINATOR
Check out her other tools as well…they are great companion plugins.

i went to that other page with all the spam plugins and i was totally confused, do i have to install them all? or will this mookitty stuff be enough?

I have spamwords / spaminator and LL’s too.
    Others like Spam Karma
Go to the links, have a read, see what you think. The plugins are very very easy to install, so you can change later if you want.

Hey podz, what’s that link you’ve got that lists all the spam options. I’ve been thinking about adding spam karma and spaminator to my arsenal for wp1.3a. The problem with some spam fighting tools, you can never really be sure they are working – am I not getting spam because it works? Or am I just not getting any spam at all?
Is there a spam-tracker? Something that will keep stats on the spam you get? I’m not looking for an email everytime, just a simple counter that tells me what triggered the spam and how many times it’s been done. Make sense?

    http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/spam ?
Codex is uptodate too, and I think SK counts the scalps ?

    TG,
Are you nuts, laddie? 🙂 You want to keep stats on spam kills?

don’t really see how else you could be sure you’re not getting false positives. of course, not everyone cares about that.

I think that the tools available are sophisticated enough that false positives are rare. I don’t want to have to have a workload associated with spam management. If I have regular visitors whose comments aren’t ever showing up, they will email me.
Some people want their fingers into everything, and that’s just fine for them. Getting email after email to moderate comments is as bad as the spam, so I’d rather risk the small chance of false positives over the insanity of a moderation notice.

yes, gathering info on spammers is one of the best weapons we have against them!

WP Hashcash will email you every 64k of spam you get with a nice summary, just in case. However, it’s content-insensitive, so the chance of false positives are extremely low, and limited to no-javascript / weird caching problems:
