Where to start a theme?

Okay so I have got WordPress running on my website and I have been using it for some time. I also have the latest blog post embedded onto my homepage but I’d like to theme my blog to look identical to my website layout.

I have no idea where I would even start with this, so any help would be great!! I got some help with building my website but I did a lot of the editing myself and tweaking around too.
