Hi, I have a copy of the header.php file on Github which adds a slideshow header to Twenty Ten on the homepage.
Make sue you use a child theme for that new header.php file so you can still update the Twenty Ten theme.
Thanks for your speedy reply Josh,
I tried the code from Github and then the code from the Slide settings in the exact place shown and my site disappeared.
what am I doing wrong?
cheers
Are you using a child theme, or did you overwrite the header.php file in Twenty Ten itself?
I over wrote the header.php file – [I don’t have access to do a childtheme] – I was hoping to be able to just add the code each time I upgrade WordPress. Doesn’t it work on the main header.php?
It does, but it’s not the ideal way to do it.
I updated the header.php file on Github with the latest version from Twenty Ten, that might fix the problem.
Great thanks – I’ll give that a try.
No, I tried a few things – cutting text from Github into text editor before pasting, cutting and pasting directly from Github, typing myself … end result for each – site doesn’t load anymore. Is it time for me to give up? I wish TwentyTen just had this functionality built in – it’s the only thing left to try and do before we go live.
This should work, I just tested that header.php file and it worked for me. If you want to send me a login I can take a closer look.
Okay – have just done this – it should have automatically sent you an email.
sorry just made you administrator
I received an email and logged in, but my user account needs to be an admin to access the slideshow settings.
is it working now – sorry I realised that at the same time
No worries, I updated the header.php file for Twenty Ten and the homepage header is using the slideshow now:
http://new.animalstudies.org.au/
The inner pages use the standard header image functionality.
fantastic –
should I take a copy of the header.php into texteditor for upgrades?
Also – just a query – why does it only work on the homepage?
Thanks so much – the best support ever!
It wouldn’t hurt to have a back up, but you can grab a new copy of this header file from Github.
The header file is setup with a conditional tag that loads the slideshow in the homepage, that’s how most people want it. But you could definitely heave the slideshow on each page.
