I use Nav Menu Roles and it works well.

One of the Logged in roles it offers in its menu ‘Display Mode’ is called ‘Member’

I cannot find where this role is created or by which plugin. I dont have any User Role management plugins.

I can use wp_roles to show the role and its capabilities.

How can I determine where the role comes from?

NMR isn’t adding any roles, so I can’t really tell you where it’s coming from… Did you check your theme? Either its a registered role and in the $wp_roles global or someone is extending NMR you show a custom role as demonstrated in the FAQ.

    Thank you for your response.

The role is in $wp_roles global , but I dont know where it came from.

Any ideas how to find out?

Classic debug protocol would be to switch to Twenty Twenty theme. If the role disappears.. it’s your theme. If not, start disabling plugins one at a time until it goes away. Last plugin disabled was adding it.

If it’s a live site and your cannot go Willy nilly disabling things you can set up a staging site with WP staging. Or use Health Check plugin.
