Support » Fixing WordPress » Where is Meta name entered?

  • Where can I find and delete this Meta name which appears in all of my pages view source window:

    <meta name=”verify-v1″ content=”+Pjw+jO/Jgw4TDhtoF2VYXc3sd1Tq+ik8wdZjXdU=” />

    A database search turned up no results. And I could not find it in the WP Dashpanel.

    I’m trying to unveify a former user from my Google Webmaster Tools account and got the following message:

    Do you really want to unverify allan2113@gmail.com?
    Meta tags, verification files, or DNS records are associated with this email address. To completely unverify this owner, you must remove the following from your site:
    <meta name=”verify-v1″ content=”+Pjw+jO/Jgw4TDhtoFmgU2VYXc3sd1Tq+ik8wdZjXdU=” />

    So where do I remove it? Thanks much!

  • It depends. You will need it remove it the same way it was added, which most likely was either via a plugin OR in your theme (options panel or header.php theme file).

    Sorry but how do we know you are the owner of the site? What is the link to the site?

    Why do you want to remove this code and the email address?

    Thanks so much Rachel, it was in the header.php file. I’m guessing the code was originally entered manually in the header.php by my original programmer (long since gone), who listed himself as the owner, before adding me later.

    CJ,

    I want to remove the code and email address because that is what Google Webmaster Tools recommends before before verifying myself as the owner.

    And as someone who has had his website severely hacked for the last year by offshore hackers, I have to ask why it is that YOU ask the questions you do? If I were not the owner, how do you think I could upload an edited header.php file? How do I know YOU are not connected with those hackers?

    Rachel answered my question without asking the kind of questions you did. So you see, that throws up a red flag about you, from my perspective.

    So plese CJ, educate me and tell me why you need the information YOU asked for. Are you connected to those hackers? Thanks
