• We have been alerted to an possible issue on a website we look after, in Germany.

It states there is no Language on the code. It’s basic HTML so I can add it in – however, when i check the Lang code on their WP site, even tho it shows UK English as Lang, and location as Berlin, the Lang is en-GB. Should that not also show their timezone in some way?

I assumed it would be en-GR or whatever it is for Germany…?

    Thanks.

Thank you, Yes I have managed that now. Just confusing when the link in the email we get, goes to the reply, with all other replies hidden.

So back to the plot: from what I understand, as we all know the en-GB is the Language only – not the timezone. The timezine, while set in WordPress, does not get shown anywhere for any SEO or crawler purposes. It is kind of strange, as one would think it would. As unless you are using .de or .fr for example, how in the code does it tell SEO or Crawlers, the location of this website business?

    Keen to know.
I know with Rank Math we can do it with Multi locations. But assumed at the basic level with TimeZone, that would be in the meta somewhere.

There are various methods for doing this, depending on where you want to locate the company regionally. A common approach is to use Schema.org. This is structured data that is embedded in the website and can provide information about the company, among other things. This is also described in the documentation for the format: https://schema.org/LocalBusiness

In WordPress, you can use schema.org with RankMath, for example. But many other SEO plugins also support it. There are also special plugins that only allow schema.org to be specified: https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/schema-org/

The format is not provided by WordPress itself and must therefore be integrated into the project through plugins or individual programming.

And btw, the time zone would be really inconvenient for locating companies. The time zone in which Germany is located extends from the north of the planet down to South Africa.

The top-level domain of domains (such as .de or .fr) is an indicator of regional classification for search engines, but also plays an essential role for visitors. As mentioned above, it is rather strange if the company’s target audience is in the UK, but they have to visit a .de domain to find information or even purchase goods. A .co.uk domain would be better for this, as it would allow the company to reach its target audience more effectively.
