Where does Google pull preview text from?

    No matter which Google+ button I install, hard code from Google or one of the many, many WordPress plug-ins, the preview snippet shows text from my site’s menus rather than the opening stanza of the current post.

    Why is this?

    Where does the text come from and how can I fix things so the snippets are meaningful?
