where are new templates?

    can’t find my added templates to edit them. I’m browsing my raw files via ftp and ready to edit php. Newly “created” templates don’t work.
    Where are they placed?
    I’m on WP 4.7.2 using twenty-sixteen with a very limited child theme

    PS. I’ve checked of course, in my child theme and parent them folders as well as the plugin folder. Is there an incompatibility currently?

    anyone there?
    I made 3 templates, hoping to edit them (for custom widget sidebars). They show up in the plugin interface and on page dropdown, but no luck finding them!
    Ended up manually creating the php files and deactivating the plugin, but the list of them persists. Would be very happy just to delete the broken choices, as my client will be doing some interaction here as well.
