Support » Fixing WordPress » When we will get simple and transparent templates?

  • Hi,

I’m frustrated from the innumerable files and folders in each theme and template in WordPress!
In each folder there is another folders and many files with redundant names and extensions!
    I can’t count the file number of index.php, header.php, footer.php, …etc!
Why these multiplicity of redundant files?
Is there a reason or it is just to complicate users’s life?
When we will get simple and transparent templates without intention to win money in someway?

In what way does a free theme cost you money – bearing in mind that you can learn how to use PHP, HTML & CSS yourself? If you want to understand how the templating system works, see Theme Development

Sure, I should learn PHP and HTML, thing I’m trying to do now but I will stay a novice compared to skilled developers. If we should learn everything in life, we does not come out..
In all the theme I downloaded and activated there is always something hidden (such as forced ads or acknowledgement, bad or ugly item that needs to be removed or modifed…but it is pain to find in which file!).
Of course, nobody could, nor should, deny the contribution of savvy developers but since these tools are open sources, why there are not so transparent?
Personally, when I use something interesting, I’ll make a donation, even if there was not forced acknowledgement or ads.
I just plead for simplicity and transparency.
    That’s all.

    Cheers!

    Try downloading themes from http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

Thank you. I’ll take a look.

Oh sorry, I’m trying the annotum theme but it is buggy:
I have this error, I already posted:

That Theme isn’t available in the WPORG Theme repository (that Esmi linked). Please try a Theme from there.

    It is: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/annotum-base
    😉 !
By the way, I lost a previous post to thank you for your answer to that post, so thank you here 🙂 !

    Ah, there it is!

Just FYI: you’re using a very advanced Theme, intended for a very specific purpose. If you’re new to WordPress development, I would strongly recommend starting with a more basic Theme, with simpler functionality.

As it is, you’re trying to modify a nuclear reactor without knowing the difference between a proton, a neutron, and an electron. I’d get frustrated, too! 🙂

Actually, it suits enough my purpose.
I think it is not so advanced, but so buggy!
It has a simple and “clean” interface but it is, alas, buggy!
It seemed that its author has abandoned it, too!
At any rate, advanced or simple, there is a problem that needs to be fixed, regardless its level. Right?

    Perhaps; perhaps not.

Are you using the Theme just out-of-the-box? Any configuration/settings changes? Any code changes?

Yes, I’am hardly trying to make some changes to better meet my idea, but I had the error message before making any change! So, I can’t say that the changes I made are behind the problem!
It works fine, but when I click on “menu” the error appears as a table at the top of the page, but it still working; I can navigate on other sections, visit the site..etc!
The error disappears when I leave the menu section!
The theme, however, supports multiple menus (I have only one, though!)

If you encounter specific error messages, you should report them on the Theme-specific support forum for Annotum-Base, so that the developer can see and address them.

OK, thank you. I post on their website but no answer, yet!
It seemded abandonned. I may change to another theme from the plethora of wp themes!

Thanks again, and enjoy your day!
