Support » Plugin: Relevanssi - A Better Search » when using search, results ruin web page display

  • When I run a search on the website, results are returned. The resulting view of the website though skews to the right, distorts the size of boxes on the website & generally looks a mess. When you click through to the links displayed, they show correctly. Why is this happening & more importantly, how can I fix it?

Looks like some posts mess up the search results template somehow. Some searches work.

For example this is messed up: /?s=casualty&post_types=post but this works /?s=casualty&post_types=page

On the broken page, something is triggering the WP “this site is featuring technical difficulties” feature in the “Featured Courses” sidebar widget. I think the problem is that widget, somehow. I’m guessing that if you remove the widget, the search results pages will probably look fine.

If removing the widget does solve the problem, then I would recommend looking into a way to disable the widget on the search results pages. The best solution would be to fix the widget so that it can be used on the search results pages as well.

Thanks for the quick response, really appreciate it. I can’t remove the widget side wide. How can I just remove it on the search page??

A fairly easy solution would be to use something like Widget Logic to set where the widgets are shown. You can use the !is_search() conditional to restrict the widget to everything except search pages. Widget Context is another option.
