# When using nightlies?

 * Does this constitute a use of all files in nightlies, or just the main ones?
   index and so on?

 * My personal workflow is to delete all of the files except the contents of `wp-
content` and `wp-config.php` and upload all the files with each nightly I use.
 * Others create DIFFs and then patch only those files that have changed, which
seems to be much more efficient. I, however, have yet to master the DIFF/Patch
routine so use the much more clumsy (but equally effective) method of deletion
   and uploading.

 * I keep track of which files change in each nightly at [http://codex.wordpress.org/User:RustIndy/Nightly_Changelogs](http://codex.wordpress.org/User:RustIndy/Nightly_Changelogs),
so all I need to do is upload the files that have changed. Sometimes the only
changed file is `/wp-includes/version.php` and only takes about 2 seconds to “
   upgrade” 😉

 * I have a editor that compares two documents so that would probably be a good
method as I could see the changes implemented

 * Use rsync. It does all of the work for you.

 * I update via cvs, but if you arent a developer yourself you shouldnt do this,
it happens a update can be broken…

 * I was about to ask this question on how to go about upgrading the nightlies every
day. For someone that doesn’t know **rsync**, would the method Rust uses be the
   simplest way?

 * “Ryan: Why does it say you’re a member?”
 * Me and Podz stole and then hid the key to the executive washroom.

 * < checks in a panic >
 * Whew! Yep, it’s right where it belongs! 😀
Ryan, you should talk to Matt about
   the Executive Washroom key! 😛

   way? 😉
 * Sorry, I had to bump – nobody answered my question. 😛
 * Thanks guys!

 * I delete everything in wp-admin and upload new
ditto for wp-includes and I delete
and then upload new all the files needed in root
 * takes all of about 7 moments.
 * I never upload images / content, though I do check them every so often for any
changes. I also have way more backups copied in various places – I’m forgetful,
   not careful 🙂
 * Remember do as I say, not as I do !

 * I can’t speak for anyone else, but my way works fine for me 🙂 I use a program
called WinMerge to find out what files have changed, then I post them on my page
on the codex, along with any notes (like occasionally running “upgrade.php” to
update the database structure, or logging out and in to update the cookies used,
obvious bugs or problems with that particular build, etc.).
 * In other words, use it if you like, there’s no worries about re-uploading all
of the files every night (unless you’ve done some custom modifications to the
WP sources like I have) – pick a method that works for you 🙂
