• Did a manual update of a WP site from 3.5.2 to 3.6 today. On sites with some plugins or themes, I do a manual update – as I recalled from memory, in the past, I only removed wp-admin and wp-includes folders…did not need to upload any root files. Well, kept getting errors…went back and read the manual update instructions – have these changed now to include the root files?

Note: do not remove your wp-config.php file.

Use the updater within your WordPress Dashboard 🙂 You don’t need to worry about which files have and haven’t been modified…it’s not designed to be updated manually.
