• Hi Everyone,

I am trying to import posts and their attachments from one WordPress installation to a second WordPress installation, both of which are on the same domain (but in different subfolders).

But, although the text of the posts export/import correctly into the second WordPress installation, the images do not physically import into the second WordPress installation.

On the second WP installation, the imported posts do display their images, but the images are linked from a URL from the first WordPress installation (instead of imported and added to the upload folder of the second WP installation.

Does the fact that the two WordPress installations exist on the same domain cause the importer not to import (And just to link) the images?

    Thank you for your ideas.

Having it under the same domain might be the problem.

Is the new installation completely fresh, without any pre-existing content? If so, try simply moving the old installation: https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress#Moving_Directories_On_Your_Existing_Server

Thanks for your reply and thoughts, James.

Yes, the second installation is brand new, but it will use a new theme and Woocommerce plugins.

The first (old) installation’s theme was causing Woocommerce international shipping address issues, so I decided to go with a new theme and installation.

I thought that there might be something in conflict or corrupted, so I wanted a new database install.

I will look at the link you provided. Thank you again.

Excellent, moving it will definitely work much better in this case. 🙂

    HI James…

Again, I appreciate the ideas and feedback.

Certainly, if moving the installation would be easiest, then that it what I’ll do.

But, in moving the installation, can I use a fresh new database?

I think one of the issues I’m facing is that my new theme has Woocommerce integration that requires new database fields created.

I thought it might be cleaner to start new.

Moving involves moving the database too, which is why it will be safer. If you move the files and the database, and follow the guide correctly, it will be just like using the old site, only at a new location.

There’s no need for a fresh database, new database tables can be created at any time, and if you want to clean up a few things, try https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-sweep/

    Thanks, James…

So, you think that there might not be a need to use a different database.

(That I can address any plugin or other conflicts that could interfere with the new Woocommerce functions in a different way).

The owner/author of the theme recommended that I do a clean install of the theme to make sure it worked correctly.

In that case, I would just install the new theme in the existing database, and deal with any issues that surface.

Thank you again for your feedback and advice.

Yep, no need for a new database, there should never be a need for a new database. That’s kind of like burning down your house to find out which lightbulb needs to be replaced. 🙂
