Hi, I installed your plugin recently, it’s really easy and fast to use, but I am facing a problem and was hoping for your help.

So here’s the problem, in day 1 I imported all posts from my other website and everything was great, but when I updated one of the posts (I changed the text in the content) after the import in my new website there are now 2 posts with the same title and different content, how do I fix this? I just want the same post to be able to be updated.

Also for some strange reason, the menu on my website is duplicated after every import, my menus are created with another plugin (Mega menu) can you tell me what is the problem there please?

Hi @dia95din – just to clarify a little and understand the issue exactly…

Just checking – had you made the edits on the original site, and then imported once again to the new site?

Also for some strange reason, the menu on my website is duplicated after every import, my menus are created with another plugin (Mega menu) can you tell me what is the problem there please?

Given those menus are using a custom post type set up by the plugin – it’s hard to know exactly how they would be behaving. It’s possible that when importing – there’s nothing to indicate it is a duplicate menu (and not import it). I’d recommend reaching out to the developer of that plugin to see if they can offer any advice.

    Yes

Hey @dia95din – If the content that is being imported is different then having it come in as a duplicate/second post is something I’d expect – as there isn’t a content match.

Could you tell me a little more about the overall setup you’re trying for – in terms of repeatedly importing the content from site to the other?

    Hi @jordesign ,

Well here’s the process, it’s a news blog we have publishers editors, and so on. So on website 1, the writer creates a new post it’s still a draft so when imported it’s all cool. But let’s say after a few days (the content is imported daily) the post is ready it’s been checked and edited by the editor and the writer and now is all good and ready to be published, but because of the constant changes on the content each time the plugin works (with each import) a new post is created (duplicated) it’s the same old post but each copy has different changes, so the content isn’t changed entirely but still has changed.

How do I stop the duplications?

Hey @dia95din – thanks for explaining.

From my understanding of the Importer plugin – it’s not possible to have the original post replaced with the new content. It will always import a duplicate. That being the case – I’m not sure the plugin will do what you’re hoping.

The advice I’ve seen in the past is that you’d need to delete the post entirely from the new site before you imported once again.

You’re very welcome – best of luck with the search for alternative ways of getting that done. I’ll close this thread for now 🙂
