When adding a new user the password field just shows bullets

Just discovered that adding a new user is no more possible like it was before the 5.6 and lots of plug-in updates.
Inititally, the password field just shows bullets, the Generate Password and Hide/Show buttons don’t work and when hitting Add New User, ‘Error: Passwords don’t match. Please enter the same password in both password fields.’ pops up (ever seen two password fields on the Add New User page lol?).
I’ve deactivated all plug-ins and added them one by one. Sure, there was a plug-in that caused the problem. But deactivating it again doesn’t solve it. Deactivating other already reactivated plug-ins neither. And next time it’s another one being the first one to cause the problem again.
Plus, on other sites with exactly the same plug-in stack, deactivating and reactivating plug-ins yields a totally different result.
With some sets of activated/deactivated plug-ins, the password field and its buttons start working again when the error message is shown and adding the user is possible. But here also, it’s not the same set on different sites that works.
I’m a bit lost and looking forward to the insights the crowd intelligence comes to.
Btw. I recently disabled XML-RCP, but enabling it again doesn’t solve the issue

lol, after logging in to the staging site today and making sure that it’s still working, it’s the same issue as on the live site now (but I swear it wasn’t just after creating the staging site!) – thus, nothing different and for sure there is a plug-in that asks for jQuery Migrate Helper enabled to let me add a new user.
