Until 2010 I ran my own wordpress blog in my own custom domain on my Hostgator site. Then I switched to Posterous.
After Posterous’ takeover by Twitter announcement I was worried so opened up a wordpress.com account, imported everything from Posterous and have been double-posting since then.
Posterous is going downhill quickly (they never answer support questions anymore, the support forums is closed, and posts by emails can take the better part of a day to appear.). The handwriting is all over the wall.
I like wordpress.com well enough, and wouldn’t mind paying them, but I don’t want to turn over control of my DNS to them. So I was thinking of returning to my Hostgator WP blog, which is still there. I just updated it to 3.3.2 and it’s sitting there, with no new posts since 2010.
I see there is an import function. But it doesn’t say it imports images. Does it? Also, I should probably clear out the current content and then import. What’s the best way to do that? Is there a recommended practice for this?
What is the best way to get EVERYTHING from wordpress.com and bring it back into an old privately run wordpress site? Is it even possible to get everything, including the photos?
