    Hello folks,

I been searching for Digg it & de.Li.cious and other plug ins like that and I found them – but now im trying to figure out what is the benefit of having such things on a blog? Is it for the readers to bookmark it and I guess when they bookmark it – it becomes like a network sharing thing?

Sorry if i sound uneducated on this issue but im just trying to find out about this. SO please reply to just help me understand.

    my best,
    Joey Dee

  • The main benefits are traffic, exposure, and backlinks. When your posts are Dugg, they get viewed by a lot of people who have the chance to Digg them again. The more Diggs, the more views, the more incoming traffic, etc.

A good 10 or 20 Diggs within a single day can bring quite a bit of traffic to your site. A very popular post that manages to get a few hundred (or even thousand) can bring so much incoming trafic that it’s been known to crash servers. I’m not trying to scare you with that; it’s an extremely good thing if you can manage it.

By the way, I recommend the Sociable plugin for that.

Ohh and a quick question – now that I installed the Sociable – it just enables visitors who have bookmark accounts with these icons that i have to click them and save them to share them right? It doesn’t mean that everytime I write an article that it automatically submits to these bookmark sites righT? that would be called a RSS feeds? If how can I get my blogs to automatically alert these bookmark sites of my latest articles, would I have to create an account with them and specify all of that as i did with digg & Delicious?

They’re social bookmarking sites meaning that real people bookmark what they like and share what they like. Your content doesn’t go to them automatically. The best way to get bookmarked a lot is to get your posts noticed by people who use those services. The best way to do that is to join, socialize, make friends, bookmark their stuff, etc. It takes time, good content, creativity, a little bit of link bait, a little schmoozing, etc. Some people write posts specifically taylored to catch the attention of prolific Diggers or Deliciouosos.
