# What’s MySQL?

 * Is there any way to install WordPress without having to learn about php and MySQL?
   The “easy” instructions are way, way, way beyond my abilities. The examples in
   the FAQ (here: [http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_cPanel](http://codex.wordpress.org/Using_cPanel))
   look nothing like the what my Yahoo cp looks like.

 * With yahoo, you have to be absolutely sure that the host plan you’re paying for
   has mySQL database as part of the available functionality; many times, this is
   not the case.
 * Otherwise, you could simply use blogsome, or get on the “invitation” list for
   wordpress.com – neither allow the number of customization options that a self-
   install of wp does, but both are decent “starter” alternatives.

 * You can also try [http://www.innereyes.com](http://www.innereyes.com) or [http://www.weblogs.us](http://www.weblogs.us)
   too – both are more “homebrew” WP hosts, but the setup is done automatically 
   and you can login immediately to start writing 🙂

 * Yes, the colours and, eventually, the versions of cPanel might be a bit different,
   but the basic functions shouold be the same. However, after installing and customizing
   WP for a client that was hosted on Yahoo… I’d say: run away as soon as you can
   if you are seriously considering WP.

 * Thanks! My package definitely MySQL included. It’s just that CP has nothing to
   do with the examples. …Unless someone can recommend an easy to use blog software
   package, I guess I should stick w a hosted blog. I really wanted to incorporate
   a blog into my site rather than send people off to another site, but I guess 
   that’s more for database savvy folks. Thanks again.

 * Here, do this: get a blog going on one of the hosted options, then just mess 
   with the yahoo available setups until you get comfortable. You never learn if
   you don’t play, y’know?

 *  Thanks, but seriously: It’s not vaguely similar. I see some of the same terminology
   but the procedure for setup is completely different than described in the FAQ.

 * Moshu’s right really. Yahoo is NOT by any means “normal” as far as a host goes.
   Don’t know what you’re paying them, but there are quite decent “real” hosts out
   there – I pay $6 a month US for one (below$10host.com).
 * “Gateway” idiots like yahoo et al are useless overall. Do the real host thing,
   you’ll be infinitely happier and farther along.
