What’s gmbabelfish?

  • I realised that there’s this junk html code in front of every post I create in WordPress 2.0. (see below)

    I suspect it’s a tinymce thing. does anyone else has this in wp v2.0? it’s quite irritating and it wastes a lot of space in the html code

    here’s a sample:

    <div id="gmBabelFish" style="border: 1px solid black; padding: 2px; display: none; position: absolute; background-color: #a8ecff; -moz-border-radius-topleft: 5px; -moz-border-radius-topright: 5px; -moz-border-radius-bottomright: 5px; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft: 5px; font-size: 12px; color: black; text-align: left; z-index: 100">
    <div style="border-bottom: 1px dotted black; padding-bottom: 2px; padding-top: 2px"><span style="cursor: pointer" class="gmBabelMousishToolBar" title="Close babel mousish">x</span><span style="cursor: pointer" class="gmBabelMousishToolBar" title="Configure languange">c</span><span class="gmBabelMousishToolBar" style="cursor: default" title="From English To Italian">en > it</span><img align="middle" title="click to translate" style="border: medium none ; cursor: pointer" src="http://blog.vjc.sg/wp-admin/data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABwAAAAOCAYAAAA8E3wEAAAABmJLR0QA/wD/AP+gvaeTAAAACXBIWXMAAAsTAAALEwEAmpwYAAAAB3RJTUUH1QUUDyoqJjAqRwAAAN1JREFUOMu1lMkVwyAMBYe0JGpCNUFNVk3k4AUwxPGS+ILxkzX8jyTH/Sfu9nrmJ3cXlnMASyWRPwd2d5XlHCBZn1BthcbRAdxTZQDI8k3mQzg11rhF+QZ9jdNOcQib6GFQYJYgCFucSRf6GsLU6wEY5yubTFqF2yq1vRwr3INXdQUWG+je1pELX4ED1wDyRAR0WfuAA9gloITyvsFMIMgYInYRqF6rO9Sqz9qkO5ilyo0o3YBwJ+6vrdQonxWUQllhXeHcb/wabMPkP2n81ocAIoLZrMqn/4y2RwP8DcQ+d6rT9ATiAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC" /></div>

    how do I get rid of this?

  • It looks as if it’s part of a translation plugin, which uses BabelFish to translate the page. So it’s probably something you’ve installed, not something the WP itself is doing.

    i don’t remember installing any babel fish thing

    on a google search, it seems like a greasemonkey/firefox/script but i didn’t install it, neither is there a plugin for wp that i installed

    i realised that if i turned off the rich text editor/tiny mce, this gm thing won’t appear. but when it’s turned on, it will. any ideas people? really puzzled abt this and it seems no one else in the whole world has the same problem.
