I’m trying out antispam bee so I’ve got it emailing me notifications about all the spam it detects, and it just threw a false positive, i.e., it marked something as spam that was actually a legitimate comment. How can I / is there any point in reporting that false positive so that the antispam bee developers can (try to) prevent similar false positives in the future?

    Hi @jikamens

reporting false positives would help us indeed! Please send them via our form: http://goo.gl/forms/ITzVHXkLVL
    (See FAQ)

    Thank you very much!

If you send us your settings (text or screenshots) in this thread we can also check if a misconfiguration lead to marking the comment as spam.

Hi! Your answer is confusing me for two reasons:

    1. The form you linked to is about reporting false negatives, as is the FAQ section you linked to, not about reporting false positives.
    2. There is no way on the form to indicate that the report I’m submitting is about a false positive instead of a false negative, so if I report it there, I don’t see how whoever handles the report will know that it’s about a false positive rather than a false negative.

    Hey @jikamens,

this is not an automated tool. It is just a form that save everything in a Google spreadsheet. And the pluginkollektiv is just a bunch of developers, no big company.

So we have no specific form for false positives, and you could just add somewhere that this is a legitimate comment but marked as spam, maybe with a link to this thread.

We will read it and look what went wrong. But as I already stated, we need your settings to finally check why the comment was marked as spam.

Did the spam reason get saved for this false positive? If yes, what reason was saved?

    Hi @jikamens

I checked the false positive comment and haven’t seen any suspicious text anywhere, so one thing what could have happened is, that there is a spam comment with the same IP address and the local spam db feature is active. This is not a problem of ASB per se, but a local problem which is easily fixed if the spam is deleted/moved away from the spam list.

Can you please check this? And is there a spam reason given? It would be great, as already asked for if you can please share your settings, so we can further check if there is something going wrong. Thanks in advance!

Sorry, forgot to post settings. Here they are.

There are no spam comments from the same IP address as the false positive.

Regarding the reason, the database says “lang”, which is puzzling since the comment in question is clearly in English, which is the selected permitted language in my configuration.

Given that this comment is the only one that has been marked spam for “lang” in the week or so I’ve been using the plugin, and many other comments have been marked spam correctly for other reasons, maybe I should turn off language filtering.

    Hi @jikamens

thanks for providing your settings and the spam reason!

I used the comment content on https://wooorm.com/franc/ to double check and it reported sco (Scots) and not English.

Maybe this is going wrong here …

I need to try this myself and if I can reproduce it, we will fix it.

Thanks for your time to report this bug and provide more insights. Much appreciated!

This bug is tracked on GitHub:
    https://github.com/pluginkollektiv/antispam-bee/issues/519

And there is a checkbox now to mark a report as “false positive”.
