Support » Fixing WordPress » What size to upload to get 600×600 images

  • Hello. Please can someone explain how to get consistent 600×600 images on our shop page?

    1) what size do we need to upload to server?
    2) where in Woo/WP/Astra do we need to set size settings, and to what values?

A now-departed designer never got this right and we need to tidy up the last misaligned images.

    Many thanks.

  • Hello,
well if you want to maintain the 600×600 if you upload any that is with this proportion (1:1) will be ok, like 800×800, 1200×1200.
here you can see the general sizes https://www.energybarshop.com/wp-admin/options-media.php but for woocommerce, if can depend on the template you chose.
In your case https://www.energybarshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/61pWCA22vCL._SL1200___71853.1542196221.1280.1280.jpg this product was just uploaded 600×600 apparently the big size was 1280×1280

Hello, thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I have some questions:

    1) how did you get into the website to check our settings?

    2) Woo refused to help yesterday because they said this is an Astra problem – and Astra haven’t replied. Where do I see the Astra settings, and what do I need to set them to?

    3) if the scale of the original photo is not square, do I need to crop it to square first?

    4) and then, can I save it as any square size (eg 1200×1200) on the server and it will correctly re-size with the Astra settings onto our shop page?

    5) what resolution do I need to set photos to? I see a lot of people still recommend 72DPI, but other say that this is not sufficient in a retina-world.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Oh!!

    1) how did you get into the website to check our settings?

I didn’t, I just inspected your code on Chrome

    2) Woo refused to help yesterday because they said this is an Astra problem – and Astra haven’t replied. Where do I see the Astra settings, and what do I need to set them to?

Look at this, there are different ways to look and modify image sizes
    https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/image-sizes-theme-developers/

    3) if the scale of the original photo is not square, do I need to crop it to square first?

If the height OR the width is smaller than 800, yes, otherwise the image will crop but cutting your image

    4) and then, can I save it as any square size (eg 1200×1200) on the server and it will correctly re-size with the Astra settings onto our shop page?

    yes, it should

    5) what resolution do I need to set photos to? I see a lot of people still recommend 72DPI, but other say that this is not sufficient in a retina-world.

72DPI is the correct resolution for SCREENS. talking about retina means that images have to be double the size (nothing with resolution), example, if you are showing 600×600 images, upload them 1200×1200

    — this is all my experience, hope it works
