The special ability is compatibility with Network Activation for now. So you’re no longer bound to having to set things up per blog manually.

If it makes sense to add more that will be considered but may end up being a Pro feature (depending on what sort of features)

What kind of things to set “up per blog manually”? Is there a network-level settings page?

I think one thing that could make great sense for the network ability of the plugin would be network-level ads and ad groups. So I could have an ad group embedded on all of my sites and they all pull from the same ads that I’ve established in AdRotate at the network level.

I totally get that this may be a pro feature, and it would be a big reason for me to consider buying pro (even though $277 USD is quite high for a plugin).

That would indeed make sense, and will probably be added in a later version.
Multisite is fairly new to me… A lot to learn.

$277 is not that much if you consider the huge potential for income with AdRotate.
Although it is a somewhat higher pricepoint for sure, but easily earned in ad revenue.
