  • Hi,

I am just starting my first site. It is hosted with cPanel.

Currently, i have been playing around with the Hemingway theme in the wp-admin area. I have quite a specific way i want the site to look so I will need to customise the theme or create a new one from scratch.

Does everyone have a local wordpress set up that they build themes in and then send them over to the server on cPanel when it’s ready?

I have Dreamweaver for editing themes but i’m confused on how i will test it without it being in cPanel. Does this mean i need to have local hosting?

    Thanks

  • Many people change their website on their production environment. That’s not something I suggest, because it’s pretty easy to break a website. Tho, many people dont know what other options are available.

For a starting Dev, this is my setup.

Simple starting point, if you want to work with a local environment, try VVV

If you want to work with GIT but don’t want or can’t afford to setup a server along with GIT, try https://beanstalkapp.com/.

Hi, thanks for your reply. So would VVV be an alternative to downloading XAMPP and WordPress?
    Thanks

It’s just what you like to use. XAMPP could also work and does not need any command-line actions if i’m right 🙂

Thank you 🙂 I think it’s confusing me because of how many different options there are!

Ha! Be careful what you wish for, right? 🙂

Well, like I said, we are happy to provide support if you want to try WPLib Box.

Our goal — although we are not quite there yet — is to create the easiest local dev solution with a focus on “just working” but even when it doesn’t we want ours to tell you how to fix it.

Those principles guide everything we are going as we build it.

    Thanks! 🙂
