  • Why keeps getting updates !!? 4.60 and now 4.61 !??? Each time there’s a risk of breaking the site. This is annoying.

  • The last major update was six months ago for 4.5

    4.6.1 is a security update for 4.6

If you test the update in a staging area and/or do a full backup you have no risk of anything breaking, but im sure you know that already.

    Hi scyber,
I understand that it is frustrating tracking all the updates and installing them.

They are however quite recommended since this 4.6.1 is specifically created to address some Security vulnerabilities and reported bugs. In another words – your sites will be safer with new update.

So in another words – you are not forced to track them and install them if you don’t want to – but you’ll be a lot safer if you do. A matter of choice for any of us I guess.

Here is an article detailing the last update: https://wordpress.org/news/2016/09/wordpress-4-6-1-security-and-maintenance-release/

It is, as always, totally up to you to choose.

I would have been nice if the core team (otherwise known as the pissy little children) had given WordFence a heads up. (you know – the #1 security plugin that’s absolutely required since core can’t seen to actually secure WP – I guess they’re too busy debating what button should appear in the WP editor)

Now all WF users are getting “Unknown WordPress core version: 4.6.1” emails and errors.

No doubt payback from the pissy children for being hammered over their response to the last bad plugin incident that WF reported RIGHTLY to their user base FIRST.

    I’ll cry foul.

See… WordFence should have known. Why do I say that? Because this was published and publicized in the very public WordPress core meetings in Slack. Anyone who cared about this knew.

Oh hey look! That was 6 days ago!

WordFence had every chance to know about this, like everyone else.

No such thing happened. Not once. Not ever. We’re not children.

    I guess you need reminding…

We will always put our customers and community first

I could find you a dozen links where core members acted like children over this because YOU got caught with your pants down.

Interesting coming from you, the Lead Plugin Wrangler. With that title essentially that entire mess is YOUR fault.

Do you REALLY want to continue this conversation?

You seem to assume that we can force Wordfence to follow development news. We can’t.

WordPress 4.6.1 has been in development publicly since WordPress 4.6 launched: https://make.wordpress.org/core/

The Release Candidate for 4.6.1 launched 1 week ago, again publicly: https://make.wordpress.org/core/2016/09/01/4-6-1-release-candidate/

We’ve done everything we can from our end to ensure that Wordfence is aware of 4.6.1, short of drive to the lead developer’s house and knock on his door. If they aren’t following the development, which all happens publicly, that’s not on us, it’s on them.

Core members did not act like children. Nor did Wordfence. We acted like adults who disagreed about the proper method to handle a situation. It happens.

I’ve never figured out how to have this conversation since no one wants to listen to me, so I will repeat the truth. No one hid the release information from Wordfence, and to continue to claim so is an act of willful ignorance.

(If I ignore these posts, I’m not ‘admitting’ I was wrong, I’m just tired of being personally attacked and slandered all over the place.)

    Wow…

There really is only one person being childish here and in a couple other threads the same person. Not sure why he keeps embarrassing himself.

If you have a problem with WordPress rseigel; I suggest you either start “improving” it yourself or just start using Joomla or Drupal instead, instead of trolling the support forum. Useless…

I second this, more updates means more problem, this is totally stupid and not very difficult to understand it seems…

Hm, I’m not sure which part is being misunderstood with regards to “WordPress versions 4.6 and earlier are affected by two security issues […] In addition to the security issues above, WordPress 4.6.1 fixes 15 bugs from 4.6.” from https://wordpress.org/news/2016/09/wordpress-4-6-1-security-and-maintenance-release/

I can assure you that WordPress 4.6.1 was not released with the intention of causing *more* problems, quite the opposite actually.

If there is a way we can refine that message so it’s not misunderstood, please do let us know.

Well I just updated my two sites and deeply regretting it πŸ™
Now, after updates, when I post article from my blog to the Facebook, the IMAGE missing.
I use first main image from post and it is always big enough and worked so well.
It was so hard to set up to appear in FB without using featured picture but rather first picture of post ( saves server room from uploading double pictures to the wordpress media gallery this is why I do not use these).
    Worked brilliant and gone now….
I just tested it with other blog I have and not yet updated with WordPress 4.6.1
Please, how can I find now link here to find solution, too big blog to unisntall and reinstall, and totally useless if I can’t repost or share my blogposts in Facbook πŸ™
I am soooooo disappointed and helpless now πŸ™
