• Suddenly I can’t access my WP control panel. when i try, i get a page showing that says “database update required” … i don’t want to do this now, as my internet service has been throttled and it might not go well until i get my speed back … plus it’s my bedtime … is there any way for me to avoid this requirement?

Also, is this “database update” different than or the same as me upgrading to WP 4.4?

Don’t i need to do stuff first, like back up my website files? and deactivate all my plug-ins? I can’t do those things, since i can’t get onto my control panel …

fyi, i am using WP 4.3, and i use just the default / classic theme of WP for my site http://www.lewiscountysirens.com … and i am a rookie.

thank you very much in advance for answers.

  • The database upgrade is part of th eWordPress upgrade. It happens because one or more of the tables in the daabase have changed and the database needs to be altered to reflect the change.

Remember to do a daabase backup before doing a WP upgrade.

p.s. the upgrade of the database should have no effect on your internet speed since it is work going on on the server and not data being transfered back and forth.

Same issue using 4.7. Adding to this thread, as I tried @juggledad suggestion, and it worked to give me admin access; but under updates, I have a new error:

You have the latest version of WordPress.
