What is the recommended practice for images?

    I have nextGEN gallery and WP estore installed. Before I go crazy adding products I need a recommendation on image sizes. What is the best practice? I optimize the image for the web, but I am unsure what size to make it. I want to use a large image in a post with details and as a thumbnail using nextgen and estore.
