While we tolerate simple formalities like “Thanks, Mike”, including links as well makes you look like a spammer. I don’t believe you to be a spammer. You’re not in any kind of trouble as long as the practice does not continue.
@sahilsalotra – Are you wanting to highlight certain text in an article? Like search terms for example. Or do you wish to permanently change the appearance of all the text? An explanation of what you are trying to accomplish can help us in suggesting the best way to accomplish that.

Underlines in particular could prove to be elusive. The format option for this in the editor has been intentionally omitted. Underlines are supposed to indicate hyperlinks to other pages. Using them for other reasons can cause confusion with end users.
You could manually style certain text with underlines by using the code editor to add span tags with a certain class attribute. For example:
Sample sentence with <span class="x-ul">words underlined</span>.
You’d then add a CSS rule to the Additional CSS customizer section which targets class x-ul:
.x-ul { text-decoration: underline; }
