Support » Localhost Installs » What is the best method for constantly evolving website?

  • Hi Guys,

I have been developing sites on a local host (Mamp) and then uploading them to various servers as standard.

My question is; What is the best method for working on a site that is constantly being changed?

Local host is fast and productive, but then has a frustrating upload sequence (exporting databases etc)

Working online is slow and requires a million refresh clicks.

Is there an easier way to work?

  • normally i do my core setup locally
then there comes a time when i abandon the localhost and develop online

only when there are dramatic changes do i download my content and db and make modifications offline…

it is not the “best practices” method but that is what works for me.

if you work in a corporate environment they will always want you to do all modifications local and then deploy to the production server… I just don’t have the time for that.. however I am not making dramatic changes to the database .. normally I am just adding a few lines of code or modifying the css.
